About Us

What is the youth endowment for activities?

The Youth Endowment for Activities is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit foundation of the Idaho High School Activities Association. The foundation was incorporated in December 1986.

The Youth Endowment for Activities Foundation, Inc. (YEA) has a Board of Directors with no fewer than thirteen (13) members representing education and the private sector in each of the six activity districts. The foundation has an executive director, president, and vice-president. The board meets two times annually.

The sole purpose of the endowment is to help offset some of the travel expenses for schools that send qualifiers to state competition in 9 different IHSAA-sponsored athletics and activities. The interest from the fund is used for this purpose. Every dollar received as a donation will be deposited in an interest-bearing account and only the interest will be used assuring perpetual endowment.

How Will This Plan Benefit Schools?

The smallest schools in Idaho will receive dividend reimbursement based upon the same formula used for larger schools. Schools who are vested will be eligible to receive benefits when they have qualifiers to state competition. Money normally used to send qualifiers to a state competition will be available for schools to purchase computers, library resource materials, equipment, science labs, etc.

How Does A School Become Vested?

To participate in the voluntary vested plan a school is assessed according to the classification in which it resides. There are several ways that a school may raise money for their assessment: Jamborees, Private Donations, Corporate Donations, surcharges on home games, money from vending machines earmarked for assessment, soliciting contributions at games and many other ways. Additional money is donated to YEA from grants, memorial gifts, wills and bequests, interest/dividends on investments and from athletic officials.

Tax Advantages When One Donates to YEA!

Individuals:  The following chart illustrates how an individual may contribute $100 and with the federal and state deductions, and unique Idaho tax credit, the contribution may cost only $13.80 out-of-pocket cash, depending on the tax bracket the individual is in.

Corporations:  When a corporation donates to YEA it helps the school or schools in its area reach its assessment by requesting credit be given to its designated school and at the same time it ultimately helps all schools in the state by increasing the balance.

Idaho Tax Credit:  Idaho allows a credit up to half of the amount contributed to YEA. This credit is limited to the lesser of 20% of the taxpayer’s total income tax liability or $50 per person. Thus the maximum credit is $100 for a joint tax return and $50 for a single taxpayer. Actual cost of the contribution is illustrated in the last column after the deductions and credits are taken into account.
